It was raised to defend India's border with Tibet Autonomous Region, China in Arunachal Pradesh. It specializes in mountain warfare. ==History== The proposal to raise the ''Arunachal Scouts'' along the lines of the illustrious Ladakh Scouts for defending the border with China was proposed by former Indian Army chief and Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, General J. J. Singh, in 2008. The proposal was approved by the Union Cabinet in 2009.〔(Army open to ‘Arunachal Scouts’ plan | StratPost )〕 The new battalion was carved out of the Assam Regiment.
